Linux Enterprise Cluster: Build a Highly Available Cluster with Commodity Hardware and Free Software

Linux Enterprise Cluster: Build a Highly Available Cluster with Commodity Hardware and Free Software
Publisher: No Starch Press | ISBN: 1593270364 | edition 2005 | CHM | 464 pages | 3,7 mb

The Linux Enterprise Cluster explains how to take a number of inexpensive computers with limited resources, place them on a normal computer network, and install free software so that the computers act together like one powerful server. This makes it possible to build a very inexpensive and reliable business system for a small business or a large corporation. The book includes information on how to build a high-availability server pair using the Heartbeat package, how to use the Linux Virtual Server load balancing software, how to configure a reliable printing system in a Linux cluster environment, and how to build a job scheduling system in Linux with no single point of failure. The book also includes information on high availability techniques that can be used with or without a cluster, making it helpful for System Administrators even if they are not building a cluster. Anyone interested in deploying Linux in an environment where low cost computer reliability is important will find this book useful.

High Performance Linux Clusters with OSCAR, Rocks, OpenMosix, and MPI

By Joseph D Sloan

Published by O'Reilly Media (http://oreilly.com/catalog/9780596005702/)
Since a wide variety of options exist in each area of clustering software, the author discusses the pros and cons of the major free software projects and chooses those that are most likely to be helpful to new cluster administrators and programmers. A few of the projects introduced in the book include:
* MPI, the most popular programming library for clusters. This book offers simple but realistic introductory examples along with some pointers for advanced use.

* OSCAR and Rocks, two comprehensive installation and administrative systems

* openMosix (a convenient tool for distributing jobs), Linux kernel extensions that migrate processes transparently for load balancing

* PVFS, one of the parallel filesystems that make clustering I/O easier

* C3, a set of commands for administering multiple systems

Ganglia, OpenPBS, and cloning tools (Kickstart, SIS and G4U) are also covered. The book looks at cluster installation packages (OSCAR & Rocks) and then considers the core packages individually for greater depth or for folks wishing to do a custom installation. Guidelines for debugging, profiling, performance tuning, and managing jobs from multiple users round out this immensely useful book.

Superb Reading Features
Through a partnership between O'Reilly Media and Lexcycle, this app includes the same features that have made Stanza an iPhone phenomenon with over a million downloads:
* Full book text search
* Several fonts and themes to choose from
* Built-in dictionary
* The ability to add annotations
* Landscape view
* Extensive cross-referencing and working hyperlinks
* Zoom function for images and screenshots

Offensive Security 101 v2.0

“Offensive Security 101 v.2.0″ is a course designed for network administrators and security professionals who need to get acquainted with the world of offensive security. The course introduces the latest hacking tools and techniques, and includes remote live labs for exercising the material presented to the students.

This course gives a solid understanding of the penetration testing process, and is equally important for those wanting to either defend or attack their network.

Offensive Security 101 v.2.0 qualifies you for 40 ISC2 CPE Credits. This applies to students who submit their exercise documentation at the end of the course, or pass the certification challenge.

The need to understand the attacker and his methods is vital for better defending our networks.“Offensive Security” is designed for System Administrators and security professionals who want to get acquainted with the world of Offensive Security, but do not have the time to spend on a full blown course. This course will introduce the basic (and not so basic) vectors of attack in a safe and secluded “Offensive-Security” lab environment.

Prerequisites

• The student must have a solid understanding of Network Administration and TCP/IP, and a reasonable level of familiarity with Linux, in order to complete the course.
• A modern PC, with the capability of displaying full screen video and sound.
• A fast Internet connection to view or download the Videos.
• A fast Internet connection to connect to the Offensive Security Labs over VPN.

Course Description

“Offensive Security” is not your usual IT security course. The labs are challenging and the exercises are hard, often requiring a certain degree of personal research and self study. It is vital that you meet the technical prerequisites as stated above, otherwise you might find yourself lost as the course progresses.In many cases, previous knowledge is assumed and theoretical explanations are shortened or referenced, in case the student needs a refresher. Please note, we do not have a refund policy – it is your
responsibility to make sure you meet the mentioned technical requirements.However, if you do meet the technical requirements, this course will very quickly expose you to the
world of Offensive Security, and teach you the inner workings, tools and methodologies of modern day attackers.

Deploying Qos for Cisco Ip and Next Generation Networks: The Definitive Guide

Morgan Kaufmann Publishers | English | 2009-05-01 | ISBN: 012374461X | 425 pages | PDF | 13 MB
"Deploying QoS for IP Next Generation Networks: The Definitive Guide" provides network architects and planners with insight into the various aspects that drive QoS deployment for the various network types. It serves as a single source of reference for businesses that plan to deploy a QoS framework for voice, video, mobility and data applications creating a converged infrastructure. It further provides detailed design and implementation details for various service deployments across the various Cisco platforms such as the CRS-1, 12000, 7600 & 7200 series routers that are widely deployed in most Carrier Networks.

The book covers architectural and implementation specific information plus recommendations for almost all the popular line cards across the various hardware platforms widely used in the market. It also addresses QoS architecture and deployment on the Cisco CRS-1 platform and is considered as a unique selling point of this book. In short, the book serves as an 'On the Job Manual' which can also be used as a study guide for Cisco specialist certification programs (CCNA, CCIP, and CCIE). This book includes detailed illustration and configurations. In addition, it provides detailed case studies along with platform specific tests and measurement results. A link to a detailed tutorial on QoS metrics and associated test results will be available at the book's companion website in order to ensure that the reader is able to understand QoS functionality from a deployment standpoint. This book covers the requirements and solutions in deploying QoS for voice, video, IPTV, mobility and data traffic classes (Quad-play networks), saving the reader time in searching for hardware specific QoS information, given the abundance of Cisco platforms and line cards. It presents real-life deployments by means of detailed case studies, allowing the reader to apply the same solutions to situations in the work place. It provides QoS architecture and implementation details on Cisco CRS-1, 12000, 7600, and 7200 routing platforms using Cisco IOS/IOS-XR software, aiding the reader in using these devices and preparing for Cisco specialist certification.
